Lorwyn Eclipsed - A shift back to Magic lore.

Lorwyn Eclipsed - A shift back to Magic lore.

I know, I know, Avatar hasn't even come out yet and I'm already writing about Lorwyn. Listen. I'm excited so give me a break.

Why I’m Excited for Lorwyn Eclipsed at Victory Point.

There’s nothing quite like the anticipation of a new Magic: The Gathering set, and Lorwyn Eclipsed has me genuinely excited. Not just as a store owner, but as a semi-longtime Magic fan. At Victory Point, set releases are some of our favorite moments of the year, and this one is shaping up to be something special.

This year has been a crazy ride. The hobby industry has been booming and we've been busy... but for those of us who like the story and lore of Magic all of the Universes Beyond have put a different atmosphere in the air. Some of our long-time players have taken a break, less excited about the themes and the cards.

I live for a good theme. My favorite set is still Throne of Eldraine... who doesn't want to cook a ginger bread man in an oven and yell DIDN'T SAY PLEASE when you block that stupid cat from hitting the board (I don't even remember if the cat was a legal target, but I do remember chuckling everytime I cast DSP). Lorwyn Eclipsed, based on the little we know, is looking like it's going to have the depth and whimsy that makes a set extra enjoyable for me to play... and hopefully some awesome art too. Don't let me down WOTC.

Read on to learn a little more about what's to come, both for the set and for the shop!

A Return to Lorwyn—With a Twist

If you’ve played Magic for a while, you probably remember Lorwyn’s unique, fairy-tale world that's full of elves, kithkin, faeries, and giants. With Lorwyn Eclipsed, we’re heading back to that vibrant plane, but this time, things are a bit darker and more mysterious. The set promises to revisit some classic tribes and characters, while introducing new storylines and unexpected alliances. I’m looking forward to seeing how the lore unfolds and sharing those story moments with our community.

New Mechanics, New Decks, New Stories

Of course, the real fun comes from the cards themselves. Lorwyn Eclipsed is bringing in some fresh mechanics that I think will shake up both Standard and Commander:
  • Shadowbind: This new mechanic adds a twist to combat, letting creatures slip past blockers under certain conditions.
  • Moonmark: Cards with Moonmark get stronger as you interact with the new “Eclipse Deck,” a sideboard mechanic unique to this set.
  • Tribal Synergies: Lorwyn’s signature tribes—Elves, Faeries, Kithkin, and Giants—are back with new cards and interactions. There’s something here for everyone, whether you’re a dedicated tribal player or just love building creative decks.
I’ve already started brainstorming deck ideas, and I can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with during our events.

What’s Coming to the Store

Here’s what you can expect to see on our shelves and event tables for Lorwyn Eclipsed:
  • Draft Night - It's a draft in a box! Lands, Prize support, it's got it all!
  • Play Boosters - Can't go wrong.
  • Collector Boosters - For you people who like Shineys, searlized Bitterbloom Bearer
  • Two brand-new Commander decks - each focused on a different Lorwyn tribe
  • Bundles - nothing new here, cool dice, some packs - you know the drill
As always, we’ll have singles available through TCGPlayer, and preorders are open now both in-store and online. We recommend reserving early, with this being the first set back from Universes beyond I expect it'll move fast.

Why This Set Matters

For me, the real magic of set releases isn’t just the new cards; it’s the community. Lorwyn Eclipsed is a chance for us to come together, try new strategies, and make some great memories around the table. Whether you’re here for the lore, the gameplay, or just to hang out with friends, I hope you’ll join us for the prerelease and beyond.
Hopefully we'll see you well before this set comes out but.. plan ahead - let’s make this set launch one to remember!
